NEW 6 FRAME NUCLEUS
Paradise Honey of Finland have informed us of a new product which will be available soon. It is a 6 frame Langstroth nucleus in high density polystyrene. This nucleus has some very interesting features:
- Built to take 6 Langstroth frames or 5 frames and a frame feeder but with the capability of being converted to two 3 frame nucs. This 3 plus 3 configuration is achieved with a division board which slides down slots inside the body and through two entrances in the floor. One or both of which can be closed off when required.
- Varroa floor for ventilation and mite monitoring.
- Reversible roof exactly like our full sized hives. This can be used as a top entrance if required but more usefully for a nuc it means with one of our plastic propolis screens cut down to size the roof effectively becomes a travel screen. Together with an open varroa floor this will provide lots of ventilation allowing nucs to be kept closed for even quite long delivery journeys.
The body of the nucleus is of course seperate which means they can be stacked, either for uniting a queenless nuc or to take deep frames. This makes this nuc suitable for use with MD or Jumbo Langstroth frames but also, with a suitable conversion kit a double depth nuc will take 14 by 12 National frames and even Commercial frames. We already supply a conversion kit for normal BS National frames which will be ideal for this nucleus but we will also soon offer a conversion kit for 14 by 12 frames as well.
Some CAD pictures of this exciting new product are shown below. The images show the roof in the inverted position - it will normally be used the other way up but shown this way you can see the slot in the roof which supports the top of the division board and ensures a bee-proof seal between the two colonies. Information on price and availability will be posted on this site as soon as they are available. Send us an e-mail through the Contact Us page and we will send you notification as soon as this information can be released.
